We have been discussing Faith for the last 3 weeks. This is a list Segun put together for us two weeks ago… thanks Segun!
What do you think? Let’s respond and enter the conversation of Faith in Faith!
Faith in 10 sayings or less
1. Faith has been defined
Assurance (Gk: hoopostasis) That which stays under or supports
Evidence (Gk: elengkos) Proof or conviction
Exercise- “My faith in God supports ………” “My faith in God proves to me that …….”
2. A person’s faith may be in vain
Psalm 20: 7-8 (Extra reading: 1 Samuel 4:1-22).
3. Faith must be challenged to remain authentic
We are constantly given the opportunity in “small” things and “big” things, to live by faith or by its alternative.
Heb 11:32 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
Heb 11:33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
Heb 11:34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
Heb 11:35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
4. Faith without works is dead
James 2:17, 26
5. Faith must grow or regress. It cannot be static
Romans 1: 16-17
For I am not ashamed of the Gospel (good news) of Christ, for it is God’s power working unto salvation [for deliverance from eternal death] to everyone who believes with a personal trust and a confident surrender and firm reliance, to the Jew first and also to the Greek, For in the Gospel a righteousness which God ascribes is revealed, both springing from faith and leading to faith [disclosed through the way of faith that arouses to more faith]. As it is written, The man who through faith is just and upright shall live and shall live by faith. (Romans 1:16, 17 AMP)
And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.” (Luke 22:31, 32 NKJV)
6. Faith always wins
1 John 5:4, 5
